Why treating yourself with love should be your top priority.
Have you heard the saying “you can’t pour from an empty cup?”
It is the ultimate truth! Self-care is not some new age buzzword, but a vital practice for both men and women.
My mother died at the age of 40 from an hereditary disease.
I’ve always felt if I didn’t go to the doctor’s office problems with my health wouldn’t exist. That was absolutely ignorance is blissful thinking.
But, I finally decided to make myself a priority and signed up for an annual exam and mammogram. Because I decided to have that mammogram, my doctor was able to diagnose breast cancer early.
And after the initial operation, I did not have to undergo chemotherapy or radiation. Just a small pill taken for the next five years.
After that experience, I started thinking more about what would have happened if I had continued with my ignorant way of thinking. Would I be here writing this article?
In a world that demands our constant attention and self-sacrifice, we often forget the importance of nurturing our own well-being. We have to realize that self-care is truly the ultimate act of self-love that can heal our weary souls and restore balance to our mental and physical health.
Self-care is often seen as a luxury or an indulgence, but in reality, it is taking time out of your day to make yourself a priority. Self care is not selfish, it is necessary for maintaining a healthy mind, body, and soul.
By embracing self-care, you are showing yourself the love and respect that you deserve.
Embracing self-love through self-care
Self-care is one way to demonstrate this love for yourself. Whether it’s taking a long bath, going for a walk outside, or simply reading a good book, self-care allows you to connect with yourself and prioritize your own needs.
Self-care cultivates self-esteem and self-worth
There are countless self-care practices that can help you enhance your self-love. The most important aspect is taking care of your physical health. This includes eating nutritious foods, getting enough sleep, and engaging in regular exercise. Taking care of your body not only improves your physical well-being but also boasts self confidence and self-esteem.
Nurturing your emotional well-being
Activities such as journaling, practicing mindfulness, or meditation, and seeking therapy or counseling if needed goes a long way toward taking care of yourself emotionally.
Engaging in hobbies and activities that bring you joy and fulfillment is also an important part of self-care. Whether it is painting, playing a musical instrument or gardening, doing things that you love and truly enjoy can help you reconnect with yourself and cultivate self-love.
“Self-care is not selfish. You cannot serve from an empty vessel.”― Eleanor Brownn
In conclusion, self-care is not selfish care. When you take the time to make sure you are in the best space for yourself, everyone else will benefit. When you’re tired, stressed, run down and not feeling your best, it will show in your attitude and the decisions made for yourself and your family.
So, make self-care a priority in your life and watch your self-love flourish. What will you do today to show love to yourself?
